Vibrating Tarot is a new version of the 1909 Rider Waite Smith Tarot deck where all the people are replaced with iconic sex toys. The idea came to me in a dream.
My name is Frank Lawrence. I’m an independent artist and freelance graphic designer from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, designing Vibrating Tarot in my spare time, on my iPad pro. The project is not funded, or commissioned.
Over the past year, I’ve had the chance to reach out to dozens of the world’s leading companies in the sex toy industry to secure their permission, and everyone you see on my page, plus many more, are enthusiastically on board!
With sex positivity at its core, acceptance, and embracing of everyone across many spectrums, this project should help start discussions and clear away stigma surrounding the types of conversations that bridge the gap between sexuality and spirituality. Vibrating Tarot is a deck of cards that can be engaged with solo, or with friends and trusted partners in search of knowledge about themselves.
The project is currently in progress, and we’re aiming to reach retail shelves in 2023. We’ll all take part in a crowdfunding campaign in 2022, and I’m looking forward to updating all of you on that when I have more details myself.
Follow my progress @VibratingTarot on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, Tumblr, and FetLife, and if you see the project on Tinder, swipe right to be entered in a secret giveaway!
Thank you to all my wonderfully vibrant supporters!
Download the colouring pages here for free until the book is published! Take a picture of your work, post it to your soc ial media, tag me, and I’ll share your work!
This is an open call for anyone who has a great list of ideas for toys to include in this deck. I need vibrators, dildos, strokers, plugs, air flow toys, BDSM gear, sex machines, fetish centric stuff, and anything else you can think of! Leave all your best suggestions in the comments on any of my social media posts.
This is an open call for toy reviewers to submit their reviews for any of the toys that are found on my page @vibratingtarot
It can be a brand new review, or an oldie but goodie that we can breathe new life into, whatever works for you. We’ll both draft the same post, my image with your review, and we’ll plan to post it around the same time too.
If there’s no toy that you see on the page, how about suggesting a new toy for the project. I’ll find a way to incorporate imagery of the toy in the deck, and we can take it from there.
I’ve gained a bit of a following here, so I’d like to use the opportunity this platform has provided me to give back to the community. Let me help get your words in front of more eyes. DM me anytime!
Since I started this project in February 2020, more than a few questions of a sexual nature have come my way.
Having approached this project from a graphic design standpoint, not a sexual education one, I’ve wanted to collect a list of resources for my followers to reference. The list will be done soon, and will be available on social media. Please contact me if you’d like to be added to the list.
I need the help of your community reach to truly be successful. Please, let's work together. If you want your toys featured, now’s the time to let me know! If you want to donate toys to my cause, I’ll gladly use them in giveaway contests. Thank you in advance, and thanks to all the companies I’ve already been working with!
If you’re involved in distributing adult toys or adult novelty products of any kind, I am sincerely eager and happy to know you. Do stop in and say hello.
After the Kickstarter campaign in 2022, when this deck is finally completely finished and printed (hopefully in late 2022), I’ll want to make the deck available to as many online sex toy outlets as I can, as well as brick and mortar shops all around the world.
When the deck is in stores, I’ll be shifting gears into promoting its availability. Let’s put some ideas together on how we can do that!
Deck reviewers, please join the conversation. What are the first things you look at when reviewing a deck? What are the top things you take into consideration? What are some essential things that I don’t want to neglect? What are some of the faux pas that I want to avoid?
Please, don’t hold back your most honest thoughts and critique on my project. I have thick skin, and I know that any designer benefits from honest critique from the individuals who use the product in question. Only then is a designer able to see their work from all angles and as a result, in a position to make improvements that will ultimately make a positive impact.
Find my on social media @vibratingtarot and let me know about what I cannot afford to overlook.
Deck designers, what choices have you made along the way? What decisions have had you stuck? What breakthroughs can you share with us?
There’s still a lot to learn for anyone who has started along this path. I hope to start some rich discussions on all the different elements involved in the vast network that makes up the Tarot.
We’ll work together sharing ideas, and doing cross promotions to help boost engagement on our both of our pages.
Card readers, let’s get your input! This isn’t a completely original deck, it’s a derivative of the Rider Waite Smith, and I’m trying to make it look as close to the original deck as possible, so that one may think for a brief moment that they slipped into another spot in the multiverse, a place where everything is the same except for one difference, anthropomorphic sex toys make up the population of Kings, Queens, the country folk, and everyone else you see.
Basically, as a card reader, what do you think of this idea?
I’d like you to do your own reading very soon. A one or three card reading. I don’t have very many cards developed yet, but as I make progress, I’d like to get your take on what it’s like to set a specific intent, flip over three cards, and do an honest reading.
Independent of any other funding or donations, there will be silent auctions to raise money for charitable donations.
Artists’ renditions of my card designs will be sold at silent auction to raise money for charitable organizations in the sex positive culture.
Rainbow Railroad is a charitable organization that helps LGBTQI people around the world escape persecution, and they are the first organization that I am donating to.
This project is all about giving back to the community, just like the Tarot system does. A percentage of every deck sold will be donated to charitable organizations and I will be using this project as a vehicle to engage in donating my time, efforts, and proceeds, for years to come.
See our past Silent Auction efforts here, and visit the websites and social media presence of all the artists and charitable organizations that have been involved.
Visual Artists of ANY Kind
I want artist's renderings of the images that I design. Painters, print makers, illustrators, sculptors, and fine artists of any kind, please let’s open a dialogue about creating an original piece of art based off of any of my designs for the purposes of selling it at a digital silent auction and donating 100% of the raised money to charitable organizations such as sexual abuse survivor centres and the like.
Please email me at vibratingtarot@gmail.com or find me on social media @vibratingtarot to start a discussion.
This is an open call for digital animators to actually make the toys vibrate so we can show what these toys really do. I have all the separate animation layers you’ll need to put this together, I just need you to do the animation work because I’m not well versed in animation, and I have no time to learn right now as I am too busy creating the rest of the deck.
If you think this is a cool opportunity for you to share your digital animation skills and create a new piece for your portfolio, drop me a line anytime. We’ll populate social media with our Vibrating Tarot cards featuring toys that ACTUALLY vibrate!
